Good Fortune in This Life

Background and Summary(Short Story)

This letter, written by the Daishonin at age 55 to Nanjō Tokimitsu, emphasizes the immense benefits of serving the votary of the Lotus Sutra. The Daishonin cites the sutra, stating that even brief service in the Latter Day of the Law brings greater fortune than serving Shakyamuni Buddha for eons. The sincerity of Tokimitsu will not only bless his present life but also benefit his late father, as the Lotus Sutra is universally acknowledged by Buddhas and contains no falsehood.

Main Text

Judging from this, there cannot be the least doubt that your late father is now in the presence of Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings, and that you will receive great blessings in your present existence.
